Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary for Russian President Vladimir Putin, recently addressed questions regarding the relationship between Putin and former US President Donald Trump, who is again vying for the presidency.
Not Much Good Was Done for Russia
According to Fontanka Peskov touched upon the theme of US elections, highlighting Russia's consistent role in American electoral campaigns.
"In the United States' electoral campaign, especially in recent years, Russia and President Putin have been an integral part of this electoral process. The topic of Putin and Russia always features prominently in pre-election debates," stated Peskov.
Regarding US policy towards Russia, Peskov acknowledged one positive aspect.
"You know that not much good was done for Russia under Trump; on the contrary, new restrictions were continually imposed during his presidency. However, there was dialogue. This, perhaps, can be considered a positive," Peskov noted.
More Conciliatory Approach
Trump's bid for re-election comes amidst a landscape shaped by his policies during his previous term, particularly focusing on economic deregulation and a tough stance on immigration.
Trump has been vocal about his views on Russia, often critiquing the policies of current President Joe Biden's administration. Trump's approach to Russia has historically been seen as more conciliatory compared to some of his Republican counterparts, although he has also advocated for a robust American stance on issues like NATO and European security.
