A Russian sabotage group reportedly planted a flag near the border in Ukraine’s Chernihiv Oblast, but no large-scale offensive was launched in the region, according to Andrii Demchenko, a spokesperson for Ukraine’s State Border Guard.
Speaking to the Kyiv Independent on November 15, Demchenko addressed claims circulating from Russian military bloggers.
The bloggers had posted videos allegedly showing Russian troops planting a flag on the bridge over the Sudost River near Hremiach and claimed they had entered Hremiach and Muravi.
Demchenko refuted these assertions, stating that Russian forces neither crossed the bridge nor entered the settlements.
"The area where the (Russian) sabotage group operated is a grey zone, separated by rivers. The settlements between the rivers and the border are uninhabited, and the constant flooding in the region prevents the construction of proper fortifications," Demchenko explained.
He emphasized that Ukraine's defense forces maintain full control of the area and occupy strategically advantageous positions to defend against any incursions.
The incident, while provocative, appears to be limited to symbolic actions rather than a precursor to broader hostilities in the region.
