A Syrian national sparked chaos at the Israeli Embassy in Bucharest on Monday by hurling a Molotov cocktail at the building's entrance before attempting to set himself on fire, according to reports from Digi24.

Romanian intelligence services (SRI) swiftly intervened following the incident.

A statement from the Bucharest Police's General Directorate reported,

"Today, June 3, 2024, police officers from the 14th Police District were alerted by the Romanian Intelligence Service regarding a man attempting self-immolation."

Upon arrival, the authorities identified a 34-year-old foreign national.

Quick Action by Authorities

The man, identified as a Syrian citizen, was subdued immediately after throwing the Molotov cocktail.

"Prior to the arrival of the police, he was immobilized by the Antiterrorism Brigade of the Romanian Intelligence Service," the police confirmed.

The embassy's security team quickly extinguished the fire, which caused minor damage to a poster on the door but no significant material losses or injuries.
