President-elect Donald Trump has announced that addressing the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia will be a key focus of his administration's foreign policy.
"The U.S. priority on the international stage is to resolve the conflict between Ukraine and Russia," Trump said in an interview with Paris Match. He described the situation in Ukraine as even more complicated than issues in the Middle East, calling for swift resolutions in both regions.
While recognizing the need for a resolution to the crisis in Syria, Trump suggested that the Syrians themselves must take the lead in addressing their conflict, noting, "The United States, like France, is not involved in this conflict."
Trump also addressed trade and defense as priorities for U.S. strategic cooperation with France. He described France as both a "friend and an ally" to the United States.
On the domestic front, Trump reiterated his commitment to tackling immigration and crime as key priorities for his administration.
Trump made these remarks during a visit to France on December 7, marking his first trip abroad as president-elect. The visit coincided with the reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral following its restoration after a devastating fire.
