A woman with dual U.S. and Russian citizenship has been arrested in Yekaterinburg, Russia, on charges of treason for reportedly fundraising for the Ukrainian military, according to TASS, a state-owned Russian news agency.
Citing the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), the report marks another case of a U.S. national detained in Russia, possibly increasing pressure on Washington to pursue a prisoner exchange.
The individual, a 33-year-old woman from Los Angeles, was shown in a video being led by a Russian officer, her identity concealed by a hat.
This event adds to the growing list of U.S. citizens detained under various charges in Russia.
Among them are Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich and former U.S. Marine Paul Whelan, both of whom have denied espionage charges against them.
Despite previous rejections by Moscow to exchange Gershkovich and Whelan, there have been successful prisoner swaps.
