The Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has released a video confirming a successful operation against the Russian Federation's Black Sea Fleet along the Crimean coast.
The operation, carried out at night in the occupied Crimea, resulted in significant damage to Serna-class boats, with their crew and armored vehicles on board.
The Ukrainian intelligence confirmed that small landing ships of the Black Sea Fleet, specifically the project 11770 (Serna class), were targeted.
These ships were carrying both personnel and armored BTR-82 armored personnel carriers.
This operation was officially confirmed after Suspilne and Fakty reported about two damaged boats near the village of Chornomorske, citing sources within the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine.
The Main Directorate of Intelligence noted that the Russian Federation had been actively using the "Serna" class small landing boats for military equipment and troop transfers, particularly during the occupation of Zmiinyi Island.
These boats were also used to deploy Tor-M2 anti-aircraft missile systems, providing mobile air defense for Russian forces in the Black Sea area.
The Serna-class is known for its high speed and capacity to carry up to 45 tons of cargo and 92 armed troops. These boats are typically used for landing marine advance groups or evacuation purposes.
They have also been employed as mobile air defense cover for the Black Sea Fleet's ships, especially after Ukraine's Security and Defense Forces' repeated attacks left them without naval air defense systems.
This operation represents a significant blow to Russian military capabilities in the region and showcases the strategic initiatives undertaken by Ukrainian forces.
