Dmytro Kuleba, Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, has called on John Lee, the head of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, to stop Russia and its companies from using Hong Kong to bypass international sanctions.

The appeal was reported by Ukrinform following a meeting in Hong Kong.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the creation of new trade and investment opportunities between Ukraine and Hong Kong, focusing on Ukraine's recovery efforts.

Kuleba urged the Hong Kong Administration to implement measures preventing Russia from exploiting Hong Kong to evade sanctions imposed due to its aggression against Ukraine.

Kuleba stated that these sanctions are necessary to weaken Russia's ability to wage war and cause destruction in Ukraine.

He stressed that Russian attempts to dodge sanctions should not damage Hong Kong’s reputation as a highly developed liberal economy that upholds the rule of law.

In addition to sanctions, Kuleba addressed the protection of Ukrainian citizens' rights in Hong Kong.

During his visit, Kuleba also met with Hong Kong business representatives to discuss potential cooperation with Ukrainian companies and investment opportunities, particularly in the context of Ukraine’s recovery and reconstruction.

Earlier, Kuleba began his visit to the People's Republic of China, where he held talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. He noted that Beijing agrees on the necessity of a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, rather than maintaining illusions about the conflict.
