The United States is closely monitoring the situation in Transnistria, a separatist region of Moldova, as it seeks assistance from Russia.

This development comes amid concerns about Russia's assertive posture in Europe, according to Matthew Miller, a spokesperson for the State Department.

During a press briefing on Wednesday, Miller emphasized the attention the US is paying to the unfolding events in Transnistria.

“Given Russia’s increasingly aggressive role in Europe, we are watching Russia’s actions in Transnistria and the broader situation there very closely,” he stated, referring to the region by its Moldovan name according to The Independent.

Transnistria has made headlines as it reached out to Russia for economic support to counter what it describes as Moldovan "pressure."

This request was made as hundreds of officials convened for a congress meeting in the region, signaling a significant moment in the ongoing separatist efforts within Moldova.
