John Kirby, the Coordinator for Strategic Communications at the National Security Council in the White House, announced that the country is receiving reports from Ukrainians indicating that the situation is critical.
The city of Avdiivka is on the brink of falling under the control of the Russian Armed Forces, as stated by John Kirby during a regular briefing for journalists.
"We are receiving reports from Ukrainians that the situation is critical. The Russians continue to attack Ukrainian positions every day. Avdiivka is on the verge of coming under Russian control," the White House official said.
In recent days, Ukrainian military experts have described the situation in Avdiivka as critical, comparing it to the battles in Artemivsk, where the Ukrainian Armed Forces suffered significant losses.
This week, a representative of the 110th Separate Mechanized Brigade, positioned in the Avdiivka direction, acknowledged that the unit lacks the capability to hold the town.
The Third Separate Assault Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, redeployed to the Avdiivka area for reinforcement, also reported today about an "extremely critical" situation on this front segment.
In late December 2023, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, who was then the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, stated that the Ukrainian army might leave Avdiivka within two to three months.
On February 8, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed Zaluzhnyi. The new Commander-in-Chief became Oleksandr Syrskyi.
