A 66-year-old man, Ronald Syvrud, was arrested after allegedly planning to assassinate former President Donald Trump.
Tracked Across the United States
Syvrud had according to Ziare made multiple death threats against Trump over the past few weeks, even posting some of these threats on social media, according to sources from Observator Antena 1.
Law enforcement tracked Syvrud across the United States, finally apprehending him near the U.S.-Mexico border, where Trump had recently delivered a speech on immigration.
Despite the potential danger, Trump was not informed of the threat by the Secret Service but rather learned about it from journalists. This lapse raised concerns about the effectiveness of the Secret Service's protective measures.
Bulletproof Glass Panel
Trump responded to the situation with a mix of humor and seriousness.
"Let's get out of here right now!" he joked before adding, "I have enormous respect for the Secret Service and the work they do, like that time about a month and a half ago when they jumped and covered me as bullets were flying. Mistakes were made, but they've learned from them."
Syvrud is no stranger to the law, with a criminal record that includes charges for sexual assault and driving under the influence. In light of this incident, security measures for Trump have been significantly tightened.
At a recent rally in North Carolina, the former president appeared behind a bulletproof glass panel.
