X (formerly Twitter) is set to alter its blocking feature, allowing blocked accounts to see public posts, according to findings by independent app researcher Nima Owji.

Changes to Block Feature

Hotnews reported that the upcoming change will permit blocked users to view public content, though they will still be restricted from interacting with the accounts that blocked them.

Elon Musk, the platform’s CEO, confirmed these updates on Monday, stating that while blocked users won’t be able to engage with or respond to posts, they will soon be able to view public content.

Musk tweeted, “The block feature will stop the account from interacting, but not from seeing [a] public post.”

Access to Public Posts

Currently, when a user is blocked, they see a message stating, "You are blocked..." if they try to access the account that blocked them.

However, Owji notes that under the new system, blocked users will likely no longer see this message and will instead have access to the public posts of the account that blocked them.

Despite this, restrictions on actions such as reposting, quoting, or replying to blocked accounts will remain in place.

The exact timeline for when these changes will be implemented is still unclear, but the update reflects Musk’s ongoing efforts to reshape X’s user experience, continuing a series of modifications he has made since taking over the platform.
