When the doors opened and Maria Holand Toesse walked down the aisle to meet her groom, Ronny Eidsvik, in Aalesund Church, the organ began to play Mendelssohn's wedding march, just as the program indicated.
However, the wedding guests were in for a surprise when the bride took over and began to sing "You Raise Me Up."
"It's both Ronny's favorite song and a song that describes our relationship incredibly well. We build each other up and become stronger every day we're together," Maria Holand Toesse told Dagens.no.
Since the touching video was uploaded to YouTube, the newlywed couple has moved thousands in their homeland of Norway. But Maria's song wasn't the only highlight.
Her father, Charles Toesse, also captured a significant portion of the attention when he shakily sang two lines that translated to:
"It's time to give my daughter away. You know it's hard, so please take good care of her."
Maria Holand Toesse then took the microphone again and sang,
"I know he will. He loves me more than ever, so now it's finally time to say 'yes.'"
The idea for Charles Toesse to sing a few lines to his future son-in-law was his own.
"I thought he was joking. He has a nice singing voice, but he has never sung in front of anyone before," said Maria Holand Toesse.
