A Ukrainian drone strike targeted the Afipsky Oil Refinery in Russia’s Krasnodar region, a key facility supplying fuel to the Russian military, according to Andrii Kovalenko, head of Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation.
The Afipsky refinery is one of Russia’s most strategically significant oil processing sites, with an annual capacity of 6.25 million tons of crude oil.
Kovalenko emphasized its critical role in fueling Russian military operations, particularly in the southern war zones. Its location in the Krasnodar region makes it a logistical hub for distributing diesel and aviation fuel to the Russian army.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that 15 drones were intercepted overnight, with seven downed in the Krasnodar region.
They did not confirm the extent of damage to the Afipsky Oil Refinery, which has previously been a target of Ukrainian drone strikes.
The attack follows a Ukrainian strike on February 9, which targeted a Shahed drone hub in Primorsko-Akhtarsk, also in the Krasnodar region.
Ukraine has increasingly focused its drone strikes on Russia’s energy infrastructure, aiming to weaken the Kremlin’s military capabilities.
