Authorities in Kharkiv have mandated the evacuation of families with children from four settlements in the Velykyi Burluk community and 12 villages in the Kindrashivska community due to intensified Russian shelling.
Oleh Syniehubov, Governor of the Kharkiv region, announced the decision on January 23.
The Regional Defense Council reported that 90 children from 56 families in the Velykyi Burluk community and 177 children from 108 families in the Kindrashivska community must be relocated. This was reported by United24 Media.
“In total, 267 children and their families will be evacuated from 16 settlements,” Syniehubov stated, emphasizing that the move is necessary for their safety.
“We urge families with minors to prioritize their safety and leave these dangerous areas,” he added.
Evacuation routes have been organized, and temporary housing for those displaced has been secured, the Governor added.
This decision comes in the wake of ongoing aggression, including the forced deportation of over 3,000 children from occupied areas of the Kherson region by Russian authorities during the summer of 2024, as reported by Ukraine’s Ombudsman for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, earlier this month.
