Approximately 30,400 people, including nearly 8,000 children, have been evacuated from Russia’s border regions due to ongoing bombardments and attacks, according to Russia's commissioner for human rights.

Bombardment of Russian Border Areas

Tatiana Moskalkova reported in an interview with the publication Argumenty I Fakty that those evacuated have been housed in around 1,000 temporary shelter centers throughout Russia.

This evacuation comes in the wake of increased military activity since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022.

As the conflict escalates, Ukrainian forces have responded with bombardments targeting Russian border areas, according to Ziare.

These strikes are claimed to focus on infrastructure that is essential to Russia's war efforts. The situation remains tense as Ukraine continues its military operations, which have included incursions into the Russian region of Kursk.

Civilians Caught in Crossfire

In August, Ukrainian troops successfully took control of dozens of settlements in Kursk, maintaining most of their positions since then. This ongoing conflict has drawn attention to the plight of civilians caught in the crossfire.

Moskalkova noted that she has received calls concerning over 1,000 Russian citizens from Kursk whose current locations are unknown and who are believed to have been taken by Ukrainian forces.

The evacuations reflect a desperate situation for families and individuals fleeing violence and instability.

The influx of evacuees into Russia has raised questions about the humanitarian implications of the conflict and the long-term impact on the lives of those displaced.

Reports suggest that the temporary shelters are working to accommodate the sudden influx of people, providing them with the necessary support during this challenging time.
