Russia has vowed to retaliate against the alleged theft of its assets in Europe, according to Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov.

There Will Be a Response

In a statement to the press, Peskov emphasized that the Kremlin would not let such actions go unanswered, according to Tass.

Peskov confirmed that Russia is considering legal action against those involved in the seizure and misappropriation of Russian assets.

"Undoubtedly, there will be a response. Such thieving actions cannot go unchallenged," he said.

He underscored that Moscow plans to pursue legal avenues to hold accountable those who made and implemented the decisions to freeze and utilize Russian assets. He described these actions as direct violations of international law and property rights.

Funds Being Stolen

Peskov criticized Europe’s decision to use frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine, calling it both theft and a misuse of funds.

"These funds are not only being stolen but also used to purchase weapons. It’s difficult to imagine something worse," Peskov added.

The European Union’s foreign affairs chief, Josep Borrell, previously announced that the first tranche of funds, totaling €1.4 billion from expropriated Russian assets, would be allocated in the first week of August. This money is intended for acquiring air defense systems, ammunition for Ukraine, and orders from the Ukrainian defense industry.

The move to repurpose frozen assets has stirred significant controversy, with Russia strongly condemning the action as an unjustifiable breach of international norms.
