In the early hours of January 23, a Russian missile strike on the city of Zaporizhzhia killed one person and injured at least 24 others, according to Zaporizhzhia Oblast Governor Ivan Fedorov.
A 47-year-old man was killed in the attack, and among the injured is a two-month-old baby who has been hospitalized. Four of the injured are employees of Ukraine's State Emergency Service, who were also taken to the hospital for treatment.
Governor Fedorov reported on Telegram that ten victims were hospitalized, with five in serious condition and five others, including two emergency workers, in moderate condition. The remaining injured are being treated on an outpatient basis.
The attack involved at least four explosions in the city shortly after 4 a.m. local time, following an aerial alert issued due to the threat of ballistic missiles.
Residential buildings were struck, causing significant damage, including a shattered roof and broken windows.
Rescue teams continue to work at the site, searching for anyone who might still be trapped beneath the rubble.
Zaporizhzhia, once home to around 710,000 residents before Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, has been a frequent target of Russian attacks. Just two weeks earlier, on January 8, an attack on an industrial facility in the city killed 13 people and injured 122.
