On Sunday, two Russian drones were detected over Moldovan territory, with sightings in Căușeni and Rîșcani regions.
Intended to Distract Ukraine
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova condemned the violation of its airspace, calling it a "serious breach" and an "unfriendly act" by Russia, according to Hotnews.
The Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated it has "clear information indicating the violation of Moldova’s airspace by drones launched by the Russian Federation."
Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi added that the two drones, identified as decoy models intended to distract Ukrainian air defenses, pose a direct risk to Moldovan citizens’ safety.
Endanger Citizens
“These drones endanger the lives of our citizens, and we call for the immediate halt of their launch. Moldova is a peaceful country, and the government’s priority is to ensure the security and tranquility of our people. We urge Russia to respect Moldova’s neutrality and territorial integrity,” the ministry’s statement read.
Moldovan National Police reported that around 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, a local resident from the village of Fîrlădeni, Căușeni, notified authorities about the presence of a drone near the area.
Police later confirmed the drone’s Russian origin.
In the evening, a second drone was discovered in a field near the village of Borosenii Noi in the Rîșcani district.
The area was secured, and explosive technicians began investigating. Initial examinations revealed that the drone was a Russian Shahed escort model, used as part of the broader wave of drone attacks targeting Ukraine.
Authorities reported that the drone was not equipped with explosives, suggesting it was deployed as part of a strategic distraction operation in the region.
