Kyiv endured a nine-hour air raid alert as Russia launched a large-scale drone assault on Ukraine during the night of September 5.
The attacks involved "Shahed" drones and targeted nearly all regions of Ukraine, with widespread alerts across southern, northern, eastern, central, and parts of western Ukraine, including the capital, Kyiv.
Ukraine’s air defense forces intercepted 60 out of 78 drones aimed at various regions.
In Kyiv, all incoming drones were neutralized, with explosions heard around 6:40 a.m., according to the Kyiv City Military Administration (KMVA). No casualties or damage were reported in the capital.
The extended air raid caused disruption to daily life in Kyiv, particularly affecting public transportation. Long queues were reported at subway and bus stations as residents tried to resume their routines amid the prolonged alert.
In addition to the drone attacks, there were reports of widespread mining of educational institutions in Kyiv. At least six schools were evacuated, with children and teachers taken to safety as special services worked to clear the threats.
Elsewhere, Russian forces shelled regions in Sumy and Dnipropetrovsk. In Sumy, 10 communities were hit, resulting in 37 recorded explosions, but no casualties or damage have been confirmed yet, according to the Sumy Regional Military Administration.
In Dnipropetrovsk, the Nikopol district faced attacks from Grad rockets, heavy artillery, and Shahed drones.
No injuries or casualties were reported, according to Serhii Lysak, head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration.
