A recent report by Kyiv Post has sparked concern after alleging that a Russian drone, produced in Iran, exploded in Romania—a NATO member country.

Detonated in Romanian Territory

According to the SE, the drone struck near the village of Plaura, situated along the Danube River in southeastern Romania, close to the Ukrainian border.

The incident reportedly occurred on July 24, coinciding with a Russian kamikaze drone attack on the Ukrainian city of Izmail. Ukrainian sources claim that the drone veered off course and detonated in Romanian territory.

A video circulating on social media purportedly shows the explosion, accompanied by smoke and flames, further fueling speculation.

Dispatch Fighter Jets in Response

However, Romanian authorities have yet to confirm the incident. The Ministry of National Defense in Romania has announced that two Romanian F-16 fighter jets were dispatched on July 24 to respond to the attack on Izmail.

The aircraft returned to base without additional information on the drone incident. A statement from the Ministry confirmed that a team will be deployed to the Plaura area to search for potential debris that may have fallen onto Romanian soil.

This situation echoes previous incidents involving stray rockets in Poland during the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, highlighting the increasing risks associated with the ongoing war.
