Ukrainian soldiers in the Kursk region are preparing for an unusual challenge. Language guides with basic Korean phrases have started circulating among the troops.

The guides include translations and phonetic spellings of key commands. Phrases like “Surrender if you want to live,” “Drop your weapon and raise your hands,” and “Remove your vest and helmet” are featured.

The materials were shared on internal military chats. Soldiers are encouraged to learn the phrases in case they encounter North Korean troops, according to WP.

Reports suggest thousands of North Korean soldiers are now supporting Russian forces in the region.

Complicated Pronounciation

Vitaliy Ovcharenko, an air reconnaissance soldier, found the language difficult to master.

“I understand the command’s intent,” he said. “But I doubt many of us will succeed in learning this.”

The complicated Korean pronunciation has proven to be a challenge for many on the frontlines.

North Korean troops have been present in Kursk for weeks, according to Ukrainian intelligence. Their exact role remains unclear.

Most are believed to be stationed in rear positions, and direct encounters with Ukrainian forces have been rare. Ukrainian soldiers say distinguishing North Koreans from other Russian troops is difficult.

They wear the same uniforms, and their appearance is similar to certain ethnic groups in Russia.

The effort to prepare soldiers with Korean phrases reflects the unexpected twists in this war. Ukrainian forces have faced many challenges in the Kursk region.

The presence of foreign troops only adds to the complexity. Despite skepticism about the effectiveness of the language guides, the attempt highlights the adaptability of Ukrainian troops in unpredictable circumstances.
