Kyrylo Budanov, the head of Ukraine’s Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR), has revealed that Ukraine has made attempts to assassinate Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Unsuccessful So Far

According to Lenta in an interview with NV, Budanov admitted, "They have occurred, but as you can see, they have been unsuccessful so far."

Budanov’s admission comes amid heightened tensions between Ukraine and Russia, particularly following Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014 and the ongoing conflict in Eastern Ukraine.

The revelation underscores the lengths to which Ukraine is willing to go in its struggle against Russian aggression.

A Sense of Upheaval

In the interview, Budanov also reflected on his grandmother's stories from the end of Joseph Stalin's era, noting how people felt their world was collapsing.

This historical parallel may reflect the current sense of upheaval and determination within Ukraine.

The issue of political violence and targeted attacks has been a point of contention. In mid-May, Dmitry Peskov, the spokesperson for President Putin, condemned an attack on Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico, highlighting Russia’s stance against such acts.
