In a battle near Kurakhove, Donetsk region, soldiers from Ukraine’s 33rd Separate Mechanized Brigade (OMBr) repelled a massive armored assault by Russian forces.
A Leopard 2 tank played a pivotal role, joining the Ukrainian defenders in striking down invading units.
The brigade’s press service shared combat footage on Facebook showing Ukrainian soldiers responding to the attack.
The Russian forces had attempted a significant offensive toward Ukrainian positions near Kurakhove, deploying a variety of armored vehicles and main battle tanks.
Ukrainian defenders thwarted this advance with artillery, drone strikes, and direct tank fire, taking a significant toll on the invaders.
In one encounter, a Leopard 2 tank fired at close range on a Russian tank, contributing to the successful defense. According to the 33rd OMBr, over two dozen Russian soldiers were killed, about 20 were wounded, and the Ukrainian defenders destroyed two enemy tanks and six armored vehicles.
Despite these losses, Russian forces persist in their assaults around Kurakhove, seemingly undeterred by mounting casualties. Their attempts to capture the city have led to daily mechanized attacks, often supported by aviation.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported 65 combat clashes in the Kurakhove direction on November 11 alone, as Russian forces aimed to advance in multiple areas. Ukrainian defenders countered effectively, eliminating 79 Russian soldiers, wounding 139, and destroying four tanks, an armored combat vehicle, and an anti-tank missile system.
