During a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Laos, Wang Yi made a bold statement reaffirming China's position on Taiwan.

A Part of China

According to reports from China's foreign ministry and Lenta, Wang Yi emphasized that "Taiwan is a part of China; it has never been and will never be a separate country."

He further asserted that the concept of "Taiwan independence" is incompatible with peace in the Taiwan Strait.

Wang Yi warned that China would take countermeasures against any provocations by Taiwan independence supporters, underscoring the country's resolute stance on the matter. This statement comes amidst ongoing tensions and diplomatic maneuvering regarding Taiwan's status and its relationship with the United States.

Trump Suggested Compensation

Earlier, former President Donald Trump had suggested that Taiwan should compensate the U.S. for its defense support, criticizing the island for not providing sufficient return for Washington's assistance. Trump's comments, made in an interview with Bloomberg, add another layer to the complex dynamics of U.S.-Taiwan relations.

The exchange between Wang Yi and Blinken highlights the ongoing geopolitical friction over Taiwan.

The island has been a point of contention between China and the international community, particularly the United States, which has a strategic interest in supporting Taiwan against potential aggression from Beijing.
