A shooting took place at the Krasny Kit shopping mall in Mytishchi, Moscow region, leaving three people injured, according to the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The suspect has been detained.
Reports from the Baza Telegram channel and the Moscow Times, which is close to law enforcement, suggest the incident started as a conflict between a mall visitor and security guards.
Video footage shows the man being kicked and chased out of the building after the argument.
Shooter Identified
It was later revealed that the suspect is 24-year-old Danil Potekhin, who raised suspicion when he entered the mall carrying a large bag but refused to be searched.
After being turned away, he later returned and opened fire on security guards using a traumatic pistol. The three victims sustained injuries to their legs and back.
Sequence of Events
The prosecutor’s office provided a timeline of the incident.
5:10 PM – The suspect first attempted to enter the mall but was denied access. He then sprayed the security guards before leaving the premises. Shortly after, he returned with a weapon and opened fire.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing gunshots in the food court area, prompting panic and evacuation. Emergency services confirmed to TASS that all visitors were promptly evacuated, and police are currently investigating the circumstances of the attack.
Following the investigation, authorities will determine further legal action. Despite the incident, the shopping center has since resumed normal operations.
