Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur behind companies like Tesla, SpaceX, and the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), has become one of the most influential and controversial figures of the modern era.

Known for his outspoken views and ability to disrupt industries, Musk's actions often generate both admiration and criticism.

While his ventures in technology have reshaped markets, his growing involvement in political and social issues has sparked concern, particularly in Europe.

Meddling in EU-Elections

France has taken a firm stance against Musk’s recent actions, accusing him of interfering in European politics and calling on the European Commission to act decisively.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot urged the Commission to either enforce EU laws strictly or allow member states to take direct action.

Barrot argued that failing to address Musk’s influence undermines Europe’s ability to protect its political and social integrity.

The criticism comes after Musk hosted Alice Weidel, leader of Germany’s far-right AfD party, for a live interview on X.

The timing of the interview, ahead of Germany’s February elections, has raised questions about whether Musk is providing undue visibility to specific political groups.

Critics claim this could violate the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA), which regulates social media platforms to ensure fairness and transparency in democratic processes.

French President Emmanuel Macron added to the pressure, accusing Musk of crossing boundaries.

“Who would have thought a decade ago that the owner of a major social media platform would support reactionary movements and interfere in elections?” Macron said in a public address.

Other European leaders have voiced similar concerns.

Poland’s Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski warned against foreign interference in elections, while Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere criticized Musk’s involvement in the internal politics of allied nations.
