Polish authorities in the port city of Gdansk have seized 44 liters of liquid cocaine, valued at approximately 7.5 million zlotys ($1.85 million), hidden inside crates of wine.
The discovery was reported by the Polish Border Guard Service.
Officers from the Maritime Border Guard Department in Gdansk, in cooperation with Czech customs officers, intercepted the illicit shipment in Lublin Voivodeship, southern Poland.
“The cargo, which contained vintage wine along with concealed liquid cocaine, was loaded onto a container ship at a Panamanian seaport,” the Border Guard Service said in a statement, as reported by Reuters.
The shipment was intended to enter Poland through a European seaport and pass through a customs point in Ostrava, Czech Republic.
Three men have been arrested in connection with the investigation, with authorities suggesting that additional arrests may follow.
As previously reported by Ukrinform, Polish police and border guards recently uncovered a record-breaking cocaine shipment in the nearby port city of Gdynia, near Gdansk.
The haul weighed over 3.2 tons, with an estimated value exceeding $760 million.
