Mazda is gearing up to expand its electric SUV lineup with the trademark of the CX-6e name. This new model will likely sit above the popular CX-5, offering more size, power, and premium features.
According to AutoGuide, the trademark was filed in Europe, where a ban on internal combustion engines is set to take effect in 2035.
The "e" in the name hints at the electric nature of the vehicle, while the "CX-6" suggests this SUV will be a step up from the current CX-5 — bigger, faster, and more expensive.
Mazda’s first electric SUV, the MX-30, was sold from 2021 to 2023.
Now, the CX-6e could be its new electric offering.
Interestingly, Mazda’s next-gen CX-5, expected in 2026, will drop diesel engines for petrol-electric hybrids, but there's no word yet on a full-electric version.
There’s also speculation that the CX-6e could be based on Mazda’s Arata SUV concept, which was revealed at the 2024 Beijing Motor Show. Co-developed with China’s Changan Automobile, the Arata shares similarities with Changan’s Deepal SUV—longer, wider, and potentially more tech-packed than the CX-5.
Mazda hasn't confirmed where the CX-6e will be sold, but with Europe’s push for electrification, it’s likely we could see this new model hit showrooms there—and possibly Australia—soon.
