Mercedes-Benz has announced a major recall in China affecting over 500,000 vehicles due to a technical fault.

Begins November 27

The issue stems from a defective wheel speed sensor that can malfunction under prolonged exposure to hot and humid conditions, potentially affecting critical safety systems like the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), according to Tag24.

The recall plan was submitted to China’s State Administration for Market Regulation and is set to begin on November 27.

Nearly 242,000 imported vehicles, including A-Class, B-Class, CLA, and GLA models manufactured between August 30, 2011, and April 3, 2019, are impacted. Additionally, around 281,000 locally produced GLA models made between March 13, 2014, and October 12, 2019, are also being recalled.

Not the First Recall

The faulty component, which is sensitive to moisture, could lead to dangerous driving conditions if it compromises the car’s safety features. A Mercedes-Benz spokesperson confirmed the recall, stressing the company’s commitment to addressing the issue.

This is not the first large-scale recall for Mercedes this year. In a separate instance, the company recalled 341,000 vehicles globally due to a fire risk. As safety remains a top priority, Mercedes continues to work closely with regulators to ensure all affected vehicles are repaired promptly, free of charge to consumers.

Mercedes owners in China are urged to contact their local dealerships for further information and instructions regarding the recall.
