Iris Jones, an 83-year-old British woman, is now speaking out about the financial and emotional toll of her short-lived marriage to Mohamed, a 39-year-old Egyptian man.
The couple, who first connected online, tied the knot in 2020. Despite the 45-year age gap, Iris was initially optimistic about their relationship.
However, she now admits that she should have heeded the warnings of her family and friends.
Iris made headlines when she decided to marry Mohamed, ignoring cautionary advice from her loved ones. She flew to Cairo to marry him and later brought him to the UK. However, the honeymoon phase was short-lived.
Iris soon found that Mohamed's behavior changed drastically once they began living together in Europe.
Iris grew increasingly weary as she felt burdened by the emotional labor of caring for her younger spouse, who seemed to have lost interest in her. After their separation, Iris adopted a cat, declaring it to be smarter and more loving than any man she had ever known.
She also opened up about her experience in an interview with the British tabloid, "The Sun."
In the interview, Iris did not mince words. She labeled Mohamed a liar and revealed the financial losses she incurred during their relationship.
She had spent £25,000 (around $30,000 USD) to facilitate Mohamed's move to the UK. Additionally, she had previously sent him £13,000 (over $15,000 USD) while he was still living in Cairo.
Looking Forward Despite the unfortunate turn of events, Iris is not one to wallow in regret. She has re-entered the dating scene and is in touch with several potential partners, some of whom are older than her ex-husband Mohamed.
