Ukraine has repatriated 1,002 children from Russian-controlled areas and temporarily occupied territories, but nearly 20,000 children remain in Russian-controlled regions where they were forcibly relocated.
This information was reported by Radio Svoboda, citing a statement from Dmytro Lubinets, the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, on November 12 in Brussels.
According to Lubinets, Russia has forcibly relocated 19,546 Ukrainian children, though the real number may be even higher.
“They provide no information on Ukrainian children. Around 1.5 million Ukrainian children live in the temporarily occupied territories. How many have already been deported by Russia? We can only guess… But I’m certain the number of children deported by the Russian Federation will continue to rise,” Lubinets said.
He stated that, with the assistance of international partners, Ukraine has managed to bring 1,002 children back from Russia and Russian-occupied regions.
“Our international partners have been instrumental. I’m especially grateful to Qatar, which has become a key partner in helping to return Ukrainian children. Their support has been invaluable, and as a result, we are seeing a steady increase in the number of Ukrainian children we’ve managed to bring back,” Lubinets stated.
On October 28, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed hope that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, given his influence, might personally urge Russian President Vladimir Putin to facilitate the return of some of the forcibly deported Ukrainian children.
