During the early hours of February 26, a Russian airstrike targeted the eastern Ukrainian city of Kostyantynivka, resulting in the deaths of at least five people and injuries to 11 others.

This was reported by Ukraine’s National Police via a Telegram post.

The attack was carried out using FAB-250 bombs fitted with UMPK guidance kits, leaving a trail of destruction across the Donetsk region.

Civilians Among the Victims

Among the injured were five women and six men, ranging in age from 33 to 83 years old. Emergency services rushed to the scene as first responders worked to rescue survivors trapped under rubble.

The bombing caused large-scale destruction, hitting more than 20 private homes and apartment buildings, as well as a bank, a pharmacy, 12 shopping malls, three garages, and five vehicles.

Critical infrastructure was also damaged, including power lines and a gas pipeline, leaving parts of the city without essential services.

Precision Bombing

The attack involved at least six FAB-250 bombs—a Soviet-era 250-kilogram unguided bomb that Russian forces have upgraded with UMPK glide kits, turning them into low-cost, GPS-guided precision weapons.

This modification allows aircraft to drop bombs from a distance, keeping pilots out of range of Ukrainian air defenses.

This latest strike follows a pattern of Russian attacks on civilian areas across Ukraine.

Recently, a Russian drone strike on the village of Kryukivshchyna, near Kyiv, killed journalist Tetyana Kulyk and Professor Pavlo Ivanchov, the head of the Department of Surgery No. 3 at Bogomolets National Medical University.
