A harrowing video released by the Patrol Police of Kharkiv Oblast vividly captures the immediate aftermath of a massive attack on the city of Kharkiv by Russian forces on January 2nd. The footage, shared on social media and corroborated by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Kharkiv Oblast, depicts scenes of chaos and destruction.
The video reveals the extent of the devastation, with damaged buildings, raging fires, and wounded civilians. Patrol officers are seen aiding the victims, facilitating the access of medical and rescue teams, and securing the attack site.
The police, in their statement, highlighted the ongoing brutality of the Russian attacks on Kharkiv and its region. They emphasized the indiscriminate nature of the shelling, which has led to civilian casualties and widespread infrastructure damage.
The police urged residents to heed air raid sirens and stay close to shelters for their safety.
This release follows a similar video from Kyiv's patrol officers showing the aftermath of a Russian attack on the Ukrainian capital.
According to Valerii Zaluzhnyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the January 2nd attack involved 99 missiles, of which 72 were intercepted. The barrage included 10 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles.
The attack caused significant damage across multiple districts in Kyiv, resulting in the death of at least two people and injuries to 49 others.
The Kyiv region also suffered extensive damage to residential and public buildings, including schools, warehouses, and a church. In Kharkiv, a missile strike on a main gas pipeline led to a large explosion, damaging 41 buildings and injuring 50 people, with one reported fatality.
