Tank crews from the 1st Warsaw Armored Brigade are currently engaged in high-intensity training at the Land Forces Training Center in Nowa Dęba, reports the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces.
The soldiers are practicing combat scenarios and platoon coordination using Abrams and Leopard tanks in controlled conditions. This development was covered by the Polish news outlet WP Tech.
Intensive Tank Training
On September 6, the Polish Army sent a large shipment of Abrams tanks to Nowa Dęba for training, and now more details about the exercises have been revealed.
The training involves combat shooting and tactical drills with the tanks. The goal is to improve the crews' combat skills and practice coordinating tank movements in a platoon.
Photos shared by the General Staff show soldiers at the training ground as they work on these tasks. The exercises are designed to help crews master the operation of their tanks in different combat scenarios.
This is not the first time the 1st Warsaw Armored Brigade has trained at Nowa Dęba.
Back in July, the tankers took part in exercises that focused on tasks like scouting routes, securing positions, and reacting to unusual battlefield situations. The current training continues to build on these skills.
Abrams and Leopards: Key Tanks in Poland’s Arsenal
The 1st Warsaw Armored Brigade uses two main tanks: the M1A1 Abrams and the Leopard 2A5.
The Abrams tanks come from the U.S. Marine Corps but have been upgraded to meet the needs of the Polish military. These tanks are fitted with special equipment like thermal imaging for better vision in bad weather and advanced targeting systems. They are armed with a 120 mm gun and are powered by a gas turbine engine that can run on various types of fuel.
The Leopard 2A5, a European-designed tank, is also equipped with a 120 mm gun and features advanced targeting systems. It has extra armor at the front, made of a mix of steel and composite materials, which helps protect it in battle. Like the Abrams, the Leopard has a powerful engine that gives it the strength to face heavily armored enemies.
