Romania deployed fighter jets after a Russian drone reportedly entered its airspace for a brief time during an attack on Ukraine's Izmail, according to the Romanian Defense Ministry.
Reuters and United24 Media reports that the drone allegedly crossed into Romania for less than three minutes on the night of September 27.
The attack targeted the Ukrainian city of Izmail, situated across the Danube River from Romania. The strike killed three people and injured 11, including a child.
Romania’s radar systems detected the possibility of a drone crossing the border, leading to the swift deployment of two Romanian F-16 jets, along with two Spanish F-18s.
Residents in Tulcea County, located in southeastern Romania, were advised to seek shelter as a precaution.
This incident follows a similar event earlier this month when, on the night of September 7–8, Russian drones crossed into Romanian airspace during another attack on Ukraine.
