President Donald Trump has warned that U.S. strikes on Iran-backed Houthi rebels will continue until they no longer pose a threat to international shipping.

In a statement on Truth Social, Trump told the rebels to lay down their weapons or face what he called “real pain.”

“Our strikes will continue until they are no longer a threat to freedom of navigation. The choice for the Houthis is clear: stop firing at U.S. ships, and we stop firing at you. Otherwise, we’ve only just begun,” Trump wrote.

The Houthis are a Shia Islamist militant group supported by Iran. They have been designated as terrorists by the U.S. and accused of targeting international trade routes in the Red Sea.
