U.S. President Donald Trump defended his administration’s approach to Ukraine in a March 2 statement on Truth Social, arguing that securing American business interests in Ukraine’s mining sector would act as a deterrent against further Russian aggression.

Trump stated that by embedding U.S. companies in Ukraine’s resource industry, an attack on Ukraine would risk American lives, making a direct U.S. response inevitable.

"By negotiating a mineral deal, Trump ensures that Americans will be involved in Ukraine’s mining industry. This prevents Russia from launching an invasion, because attacking Ukraine would mean endangering American lives—something that would force the U.S. to respond," he wrote, as reported on Telegram.

Zelenskyy "Has No Choice" Without U.S. Support

Trump also suggested that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy would have "no choice but to concede" if U.S. support were withdrawn, claiming that Ukraine cannot sustain the war without American assistance.

Trump declared: “Don’t underestimate Donald Trump. In this game of chess, he’s 10 moves ahead of everyone.”

His statement comes as British Prime Minister Keir Starmer hosts Zelenskyy and other European leaders at the "Securing Our Future" Summit in London, where discussions are expected to focus on Ukraine’s post-war security and economic reconstruction.
