The U.S. State Department says Ukraine and Russia are closer than ever to reaching a full ceasefire after more than three years of conflict.
During a press briefing on March 24, State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce described the progress in negotiations as significant, suggesting both sides are on the verge of an agreement.
“It’s really remarkable. We’ve never been this close—just a breath away from a full ceasefire,” Bruce said.
She added that U.S. negotiators are currently in Saudi Arabia for talks with both Ukraine and Russia, exploring the possibility of expanding the ceasefire to cover the Black Sea region.
“The goal now is to fully restore peaceful commercial operations. The Black Sea is central to that. We’re staying in contact with both sides and remain committed to helping close the gap,” Bruce noted.
On the same day, President Donald Trump announced that a rare earth metals agreement with Ukraine has already been reached and will be signed soon.
