Is the era of the popular Chromecast coming to an end?

Trending Now

Many of us have one or more Chromecasts set up at home, but their time may soon be over, even though it feels like they’ve just begun.

Google is known for being innovative in tech, and now it seems they are ready to launch a new gadget to replace the small but popular Chromecast.

New leaked images give us a first look at the new device, which doesn’t resemble the old ones at all.

Images published by 9to5Google show a compact device with a slanted top that looks more like a traditional set-top box than the oval shape we know from Chromecast.

Along with the new design comes a name change; Google is saying goodbye to the name Chromecast and introducing the new "Google TV Streamer."

You can see a picture of it down below.

The first Chromecast, launched in 2013, was a huge success for Google. By 2017, they had sold over 55 million units. The latest version, Chromecast with Google TV, launched in the US in 2020 and arrived in Denmark in 2022.

But now it seems that Google is ready to take their streaming technology in a new direction.

Another interesting detail from the leak is the new remote control. It is similar to the current Chromecast remote but is slightly longer and has several changes.

For example, the volume buttons have been moved from the side to the front, and both the home button and the voice control button are positioned differently.

The Google TV Streamer is expected to be officially unveiled during a Google event on August 13, where we can also expect news about the new Pixel 9 phones and Pixel Watch 3 smartwatches.

It will be interesting to see how the Google TV Streamer will be received and whether it can live up to the success Chromecast has had since its inception.
