The simple phrase "I love you" can mean the world, especially between parents and their children. It's a ritual that many families hold dear, but what happens when it's accidentally skipped? A father, popular on TikTok under the username @DougWeaver, shared a heartbreaking video that answers this question in a way that has touched many.
Doug, sitting in his car, recounts a daily ritual he has with his son. Every time he drops his son off at school, they say "I love you" to each other, and his son happily walks into the building. However, one day last year, Doug was in a rush and forgot to say the cherished phrase.
"Except for one day last year. I was in a hurry and we were running late. So when I pulled up to the school, I was like, 'Just quick, get out, go, go,' and he rushed out of the car," Doug explains in the video.
Shortly after, Doug realized his mistake. "I looked in the rearview mirror and he was a puddle. He was just sobbing, and the teacher standing there with him was just super confused," he said.
Doug then parked his truck, walked back to his son, gave him a big hug, and told him, "Bobby, I love you so much. You can go to school now."
It was at this point that Doug discovered his son wasn't crying because Doug had forgotten to say "I love you." Rather, his son was upset because he himself had forgotten to say it. "He was sad that he didn't say 'I love you,'" Doug reveals.
The video has garnered a lot of attention and touched the hearts of many who watched it. Comments flooded in, expressing how moved people were by the emotional moment between Doug and his son.
"Imagine being loved that much!" one user wrote, highlighting the depth of the father-son bond.
Another commented, "Omg that is so sweet now I'M a puddle," sharing their own emotional response. "This is so wholesome it just made my day," said another, emphasizing the uplifting impact the video had on viewers. It's clear that the heartfelt story resonated deeply, making it hard for many to hold back tears.
