The situation in Ukraine has been a major focus for leaders across the globe, especially for the United States.

With growing tension and the conflict dragging on, President Biden faces a complex challenge.

The war has drawn attention from many corners, including the Kremlin. Russian President Vladimir Putin is using tactics that could manipulate the situation, especially as he aims to influence American politics.

One expert, former US Secret Service Colonel Jonathan Sweet, sheds light on how Putin might try to deceive former President Donald Trump, writes Ziare.

Putin’s approach involves an elaborate scheme to mislead his opponents. He uses "flattery" to appeal to Trump and make him believe that they share common ground.

This tactic isn’t new. Putin has used similar methods to gain favor in the past, and he hopes that Trump might be swayed by these attempts.

Putin doesn’t want peace. He doesn’t desire a ceasefire either. However, he understands that a temporary ceasefire might benefit him by buying time and pressuring the West.

Some American officials, including Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, have publicly stated their goal to end the war in Ukraine.

Trump himself has expressed a willingness to negotiate peace, and Ukrainian President Zelensky has signaled openness to talks as well.

But Putin sees an opportunity in the current political atmosphere in Washington and Kiev. He believes that Trump might provide him with the leverage he needs to turn the tide in his favor.

Russian media also seems to be pushing Putin’s ideas further. State-controlled television hosts like Vladimir Solovyov have hinted at solutions that would benefit Russia.

For example, they suggested that Ukraine could be "bought" with the 300 billion euros seized from Russia, and the Ukrainian people could be moved elsewhere. This alarming idea hints at the severity of Putin's plans.

Putin has made his position clear. He wants the total surrender of Ukraine, and he’s not backing down. Trump and NATO must be cautious.

Putin is not offering a peace deal but rather using negotiations as a strategy to buy time and strengthen his position.

As Ukrainian President Zelensky rightly points out, Putin is only prolonging the conflict and seeking his own terms. The West must stay vigilant and not fall for Putin's bait.
