In a recent statement, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó has leveled serious accusations against Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, alleging that Zelensky is attempting to involve NATO in the ongoing conflict with Russia.
Criticized Direct Appeal
According to Lenta Szijjártó expressed concern over what he perceives as Zelensky's efforts to escalate the conflict by drawing NATO into the fray.
Szijjártó criticized Zelensky for his direct appeals to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, which Szijjártó claims are made in response to Orbán's peace initiatives.
The Hungarian Foreign Minister conveyed frustration at Zelensky's actions, revealing that he finds it challenging to avoid harsh retorts in response to these accusations.
Further Escalation
Despite these tensions, Szijjártó affirmed Hungary's commitment to its peacekeeping mission. He warned that failure to end the hostilities soon could lead to further escalation, potentially threatening broader stability across Europe.
“If we do not manage to stop the fighting soon, there is a risk that the situation could spiral out of control, and we might see all of Europe engulfed in flames,” he warned.
Earlier, Zelensky had criticized Orbán's effectiveness as a mediator between Russia and Ukraine, suggesting that not all leaders are suited to broker peace.
