Combat medic Petro Konoplya has raised concerns about the quality of food provided to soldiers in hospitals, claiming that the situation has not improved, and in some cases, has worsened, reports Ukrinform.
Despite his efforts to highlight the issue, he stated in a recent Telegram post that his attempts had little effect.
Konoplya specifically mentioned the Odesa Regional Hospital for War Veterans, where the hospital administration disagrees with the criticism.
According to the hospital, they provide adequate nutrition, with an average daily food cost of UAH 137 per patient.
They assured that food meets caloric and nutritional requirements, and denied claims made by the media regarding a lack of meat, fruits, or vegetables in patient diets.
The Ministry of Defense is reportedly set to implement a procedure for reimbursing military meals at healthcare facilities, which should improve food quality.
Currently, supplies are sourced from various channels, including charitable organizations.
Meanwhile, Odesa Psychiatric Hospital No. 2, where Konoplya was treated earlier this year, has undergone significant renovations in its food services.
The head of the Odesa Regional State Administration, Oleg Kiper, announced in late August that a tender for hospital catering services would take place soon.
Konoplya's concerns over hospital conditions earlier this year led him to go on hunger strike, prompting an inspection by the Ministry of Health.
After the intervention of Dmytro Lubinets, the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, and a visit from the OVA head, Konoplya ended his hunger strike.
