Fears that U.S. President Donald Trump might weaken support for Ukraine or make unfavorable compromises are unfounded, according to The Independent.
The outlet, citing well-informed sources, reports that Trump aims to end the war in Ukraine by spring under conditions beneficial to the country.
Sources further indicated that Trump is seriously committed to resolving the conflict.
Close collaboration with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is expected, with an official meeting between the two leaders potentially happening in the coming weeks.
The White House reportedly seeks a resolution to the conflict as early as spring, ensuring that the terms favor Ukraine.
Trump’s Plans to End the Ukraine War
Trump has pledged to end the war in Ukraine quickly but has yet to unveil a detailed plan.
Shortly after his inauguration, he announced plans to intensify sanctions against Russia, threatening a total export embargo if Vladimir Putin refuses to end the conflict.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Trump gave U.S. diplomats a three-month timeline to initiate peace negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized on January 21 that resolving the conflict is a top priority for the U.S. under Trump’s administration.
He stated that both Moscow and Kyiv must make mutual compromises to achieve lasting peace. “Our goal is to ensure security and stability, not only for Ukraine but for Europe as a whole,” Rubio said.
Meanwhile, sources close to Russia’s Foreign Ministry told The Moscow Times that initial contacts have been made between Trump’s administration and the Kremlin.
Both sides, however, continue to publicly deny these interactions.
