Poland has mobilized its fighter jets and allied aircraft to patrol its airspace in response to a massive wave of Russian missile and drone strikes on Ukraine.

"Operations by Polish and allied aircraft in our airspace have begun," the Polish central command announced on X (formerly Twitter).
The action comes as Russia launched a large-scale attack using cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, and drones, targeting infrastructure in western Ukraine and beyond, according to L'Independent.
"These measures are intended to ensure security in areas adjacent to threatened zones," the command further explained.
A Reaction to Air Campaign
The situation in eastern Ukraine remains dire, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky calling it "critical" on Saturday.
Early Sunday, Russia intensified its air campaign, executing what Ukrainian officials described as one of the largest aerial assaults since the start of the war.
According to Ukraine’s Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko, the strikes targeted power generation and transmission facilities nationwide, crippling Ukraine’s electrical grid.
Explosions were reported in several cities, including Kyiv, where alarms blared early Sunday morning, urging residents to seek shelter.
In the capital, a piece of a downed drone hit a residential building, injuring one person, according to Kyiv’s mayor.
Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha described the scale of the attack as unprecedented. "This is one of the largest Russian air attacks," he said,
