Russian media has reported that an unexpected Ukrainian attack on the Kursk region has disrupted planned secret peace negotiations between Moscow and Kiev.

Should Have Taken Place in Qatar

According to URA which cites diplomatic sources, the talks were scheduled to take place in Qatar with Qatari officials serving as intermediaries.

Theese reports also indicatied that the negotiations aimed to finalize a comprehensive ceasefire agreement. Besides that they would establish a mutual commitment to avoid targeting each other’s energy infrastructure for two months.

However, Russian officials now allege that the talks were derailed by the Ukrainian military’s sudden assault on the Kursk region.

Postponed Instead of Canceled

On August 6, Ukrainian forces launched an attack on the Kursk region, involving up to 300 troops, 11 tanks, and about 20 armored vehicles.

This significant military operation led to the postponement of the scheduled talks. Despite this setback, Moscow chose to reschedule rather than cancel the negotiations, according to these new reports.

General Major Apti Alaudinov, commander of Russia's "Akhmat" special forces unit, reported that Ukrainian forces have been persistently trying to breach Russian defenses in Kursk.

He noted that Russian troops have been effectively countering these assaults, as covered by the National News Service.
