In response to an incursion by Ukrainian saboteurs, Russia has implemented an anti-terrorist operation (ATO) in the border regions of Kursk, Bryansk, and Belgorod.
Chemical Weapons in Use?
Over the course of a single day of combat in the Kursk border area, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that Ukrainian forces lost 1,120 soldiers and 140 armored vehicles, according to URA.
Military correspondent Yuri Kotenok also indicated that the Ukrainian army used chemical weapons during an attack on Russian forces, causing severe respiratory symptoms in affected soldiers.
The conflict in the Kursk region intensified on August 6 when Ukrainian forces launched an invasion.
Reports indicate that the Russian military has responded decisively, with Su-30SM and Su-35S fighter jets conducting airstrikes on Ukrainian military positions. Despite initial "light successes" for Ukrainian forces, Russian military responses have stalled further advances.
76,000 People Evacuated
In response to the escalating violence, Russian authorities have ordered a voluntary evacuation of civilians from affected areas, with more than 76,000 people being relocated to temporary shelters.
The anti-terrorist operation allows Russian security forces to implement heightened security measures, including document checks, vehicle inspections, and the suspension of communications to ensure the safety of the population.
The conflict has also seen significant losses for Ukrainian forces, with Russian reports claiming the destruction of tanks, armored vehicles, and command units.
Additionally, the Ukrainian military has deployed female soldiers to replace mobilized male units in the Donbas region, highlighting the intensity and desperation of the ongoing conflict.
