Russia's Air Force received a fresh delivery of Su-34 fighter bombers, signaling the nation's ongoing commitment to expanding its military capabilities despite significant losses in the ongoing conflict with Ukraine.

Maintain Production Lines

The United Aircraft Corporation, Russia’s state-owned aerospace conglomerate, confirmed that the newly delivered jets are freshly manufactured, emphasizing that production continues according to schedule.

While the exact number of jets in this latest batch was not disclosed, reports suggest that two Su-34s were delivered, consistent with previous shipments, according to WP.

This steady trickle of new aircraft highlights Russia’s ability to maintain its production lines, with estimates indicating an annual output of 8-10 Su-34s. These aircraft are designed to counter threats like the F-16s recently supplied to Ukraine.

Three Months Worth of Deliveries Lost

However, this latest delivery is a drop in the bucket compared to Russia's broader needs. The last shipment of Su-34s occurred in June 2024, and before that, in April. Despite these ongoing deliveries, the Russian Air Force has faced significant setbacks, losing multiple Su-34s to Ukrainian forces.

In late August 2024, a Ukrainian attack on Russia’s Marinovka airbase reportedly destroyed six Su-34s, erasing the gains from three months of deliveries.

The Su-34 is renowned for its versatility and advanced capabilities. It can carry up to 8 tons of weaponry, including nuclear arms, and features a 30mm GSh-30-1 cannon. The aircraft’s top speed reaches 1,900 km/h at an altitude of 11 km, with an operational range of 4,000 km without the need for mid-air refueling.
