As technology reshapes the battlefield, Ukraine is leveraging robotics to strengthen its defenses.
The country’s military has unveiled the Droid TW 12.7, a robotic anti-drone system designed to address the growing threat of drone warfare.
It’s a step forward that reflects how modern conflicts are increasingly shaped by automation and innovation, according to Ziare.
The Droid TW 12.7 is a tracked, unmanned platform equipped with a Browning 12.7 mm machine gun. It can be controlled remotely via a tablet, enabling operators to maintain a safe distance while engaging aerial threats.
According to Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense, the system has been rigorously tested in combat conditions and is now ready for deployment to military units.
Nataliia Kuşnerska, a senior defense industry official in Ukraine, described the development as a milestone in warfare.
“This marks the emergence of an entirely new segment in modern conflict—drone versus drone combat,” she stated.
The system is seen as part of Ukraine’s broader push to incorporate unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) into its arsenal.
Ukraine has been actively adapting to the demands of a war sparked by Russia’s 2022 invasion.
In November 2024 alone, the country’s defense ministry approved over 120 new types of weapons and military equipment, reflecting a rapid evolution in its military strategy.
Systems like the Droid TW 12.7 aim to give Ukrainian forces a technological edge.
The Droid TW 12.7 is built for flexibility and precision. It can traverse rough terrain and is equipped with autonomous targeting features.
These capabilities make it an effective tool for countering enemy drones, which have become a staple in modern warfare.
