BMW is preparing to flood the market with new models.

Over the next three years, the automaker plans to launch 40 new vehicles, including both updated versions of existing cars and entirely new models—many of which will be fully electric.

That’s a bold move, especially following a year of declining global sales.

This was reported by Autocar.

Enter the Neue Klasse

At the heart of BMW’s ambitious rollout is the much-anticipated Neue Klasse platform, a next-generation electric vehicle (EV) architecture that promises lighter, faster, and more efficient EVs.

The first vehicle built on the Neue Klasse platform is expected to be the new iX3, a production model based on the Vision Neue Klasse X concept. Closely following will be a fully electric version of the iconic 3 Series.

BMW CEO Oliver Zipse has even hinted that the electric BMW M3 based on this platform will be “so good it beats everything.”

The carmaker's aggressive model expansion comes after a tough 2024.

BMW Group—comprising BMW, Mini, and Rolls-Royce—saw a 4% drop in global sales, down to 2.45 million vehicles. The flagship BMW brand itself declined 2.3%, Mini dropped by a significant 17.1%, and even Rolls-Royce, known for steady demand, saw sales dip 5.3%.

The financial picture was also under pressure.

Revenue fell 8.4% to €142 billion, and pre-tax profit plunged nearly 36% to €10.9 billion.

A big part of the decline?

China.

Like many Western carmakers, BMW has been struggling in the Chinese market, where competition from local EV manufacturers is squeezing out legacy brands.

Bright Spot: EV Growth

Despite the overall downturn, one area where BMW is showing strength is in electric vehicle sales.

In 2024, the BMW Group sold 426,594 fully electric cars, up 13.5% from the previous year. China alone accounted for over 100,000 of those units, and the U.S. reached a new record with 50,000 EVs sold.

For Rolls-Royce, the shift to electric is already well underway. The Spectre, its first all-electric model, accounted for one in three Rolls-Royce sales last year.
